Capcom has delivered record net sales over the past nine months thanks to the performance of its video game business.
According to Capcom’s fiscal report for the nine months ended December 31, 2021, consolidated net sales increased by 35.9 percent to 88.1 billion yen ($770.4 million) and profits increased by 52.4 percent to 26.7 billion yen ($233.5 million).
That upswing was attributed to Capcom’s core digital contents business, which houses its video game operations, and specifically digital sales of Resident Evil Village and Monster Hunter Stories 2: Wings of Ruin. Capcom noted that overall sales of home video game software increased by 30.3 percent year-on-year to 25.8 million units.
“Sales for Resident Evil Village and Monster Hunter Stories 2: Wings of Ruin, both of which were released this fiscal year, continued to perform well; at the same time, the 2017 release Resident Evil 7 Biohazard topped 10 million units as strong sales of catalog titles consisting mainly of past series entries contributed to revenues,” wrote the company.
“[As a result], Capcom achieved its highest net sales as well as highest levels of all profit items for the end of a third quarter in company history.”
As the table below shows, net sales in the digital contents segment totalled 70.4 billion yen ($616.6 million), a year-on-year increased of 43.9 percent, while operating income rose by 44.8 percent to 35.9 billion yen ($313.9 million). Capcom’s consolidated business forecast remains unchanged.
